Parochial Church Council Meeting: Wednesday 1 July 2009

The Parish Office (Tel: 350591) now has an e-mail address: office@hatfieldchurch.co.uk

Matters Arising: Members heard of the very successful and enjoyable events held recently:
The Poetry Evening, the concert given by the Thurnscoe Male Voice Choir and the trip to Scarborough.

Correspondence: A regular volunteer who has been cutting the grass in the churchyard for several years has written of his dismay at the amount of dog excrement he is encountering during his labours, causing distress and extra work cleaning the machinery. The Fabric Committee will be asked to look into his request for signs aimed at dog-walkers using the churchyard pathways. The Town Council will be asked to provide “dog litter” bins.

Vicar’s Matters: Revd Wilson informed members of the scooter that had been torched under the beech tree near the Travis School. The debris had been removed the next day with, fortunately, little damage done to the tree.

Congratulations were extended to:-
Janet Alick on the completion of her Pastoral Training Course – her licensing ceremony will be held at Doncaster Minster on 19 September
Betty Bateson on her award of the MBE

Finance: Very generous donations from the Hatfield Physiotherapy Service had been handed out at a Presentation Evening. Mrs Watson and Mrs Liddle represented the PCC at the Bay Horse, where cheques for £500, £400 and £300 were received by the PCC, the Social Fund and the Friends of Hatfield Church Building Trust respectively.

Fabric: Members heard of the problems experienced by the residents of Church Walk by the amount of water draining from the direction of the church and of the deterioration caused to the tarmac surface by water and by vehicular use.

There will be a major Cleaning Day of the church on September 12.
(Can YOU help in any way in this mammoth task? If so, please contact any member of the PCC)

Barn Regeneration Group: A large plan was displayed of the new building – it will be roughly 3 times the size of the present building and will hold 150 people. A full scale footprint of the building will be taped out at the forthcoming Coffee Morning in aid of the Barn Regeneration project. Leaflets inviting comments and suggestions are available at the back of church, as are proposed plans.

With the dissolution of the Haydon Trust, funds will be passed on to the PCC. Terms of transfer will ensure that the money will be “ring-fenced” for the development of the New Barn, as will the income generated by the use of the facility.

The PCC is looking to nominate a Foundation Governor for Manor C of E Junior School Board of Governors.
(Anyone interested should contact Vernon Hoyle on 844643 or Revd Wilson on 840280)

Other Matters: Arrangements are in hand for the Strawberry Tea and the Garden Party.

This year’s Parish Picnic will be held after the All-Age Service on Sunday, July 12.
(Watch out for details of other activities in the magazine and the newsletter!)

Next PCC Meeting will be on Wednesday 2 September
