'The Friends' of H.C.B.T.

Friends of Hatfield Church Building Trust

Aims and Objectives

The Friends of Hatfield Church Building Trust are a group of over 270 local people, mainly non church goers who want to see the building and fabric of the Grade 1 Listed St Lawrence Church in Hatfield maintained and kept in a good state of repair.  ‘The Friends' fundraising is co-ordinated by a Committee of 12 members under the current Chairmanship of Janet Hoffman (as at October 2009).

We work together with the people of Hatfield and surrounding areas to raise money and support for the Hatfield Church Building Trust (Registered Charity No 1066646).  All the money raised is used, without exception, to repair, maintain and improve the Church building and surrounding graveyards, no money is taken for the day to day running of the Church.

Fundraising

‘The Friends' committee invites local residents and businesses to become ‘Friends' by paying a membership fee, minimum of £5 per year (although most pay more than this by choice) which can be paid in cash, by cheque or standing order.  If you are a UK tax payer you can also Gift Aid your membership which means we could receive an extra 28% from the Inland Revenue.  A quarterly Newsletter is distributed to all ‘Friends' informing them of what's happening, when and where.  Fundraising events so far have been -

Coffee Mornings & Cake Fest

Pub Quizzes

Beetle Drives

Fashion Shows with Clothes Sales

Bingo Evenings

Fun with Antiques Evenings

Concerts in Church

Day Trips by Coach

If you have any suggestions for something different, please let us know (email address via the Parish Magazine Article above).  Our mission isn't just to raise money but to have a good time in the process too and we usually do!

The Committee also work with the Building Trust to apply for grants from organisations like English Heritage and have had some success.

Achievements So Far

To date, August 2009, after 12 years in existence, the Friends are proud to have raised over £68,000 which has provided things like mesh guards to protect the stained glass windows and has contributed to new stone flooring inside the Church but we won't stop there as there's always something else to maintain in such a big, old, beautiful building so please come and join us, we would welcome your help.
